Magic? I'm not sure. Sunday. Hiked into Heflin last night to avoid controlled burns. Rough hitch back to Shoal Creek Ranger Station & the trail!
I should push in to Pine Glen today but it's miserable wet and there's a chance of snow tonight. I'd rather stay in a shelter. Cold but fully dry. Sounds like the right choice.
Water is flowing deep & fast. That will be a fun start to my tomorrow...
I wish I had any other people hiking with me. This trail is crazy lonely. Headed north

Yesterday, enjoyed the opening ceremon for the new Pinhoti Trail Section from junction of US231 / 21 and Co Rd 56 for 7+ miles of trail over Terrapin Hill (Highpoint) touches Weogufka, Alabama. It took a while and a lot of volunteers work. Enjoy!

Hiking from Burns TH to Hwy 78/281 TH. We've got 3 days and we stopped for the end of the second one. We loved the Blue Mountain Shelter on top of Cheaha for a while but this spot definately gives it a run for its money! We covered ~10 miles today and tomorrow's the easy one with only 8 miles to go.
We saved our Mountain House cobbler for tonight and I'm excited!!

Came in today about 5:00pm. Beautiful weather, still hot but cooling down a touch at night. Started at Flagg Mountain on 13 September 2018. Took 5 days at Turnipseed Campground with friends and wife. Got into Heflin Saturday for a much needed shower and no energy. Had to figure out a new diet to keep me going. Did 7 miles today, wanted to get to Pine Glen Campground, but just isn't enough day lite. Staying here for the night. Cleaned up fire pit some and might just have some of that trail magic stew. Thanks. Beautiful shelter!
PS be careful of scorpions. Killed one about 1" long on the rocks of the fire pit. Just what I wanted to see before climbing in my hammock! ☺

BCM on a trip from FS531 to Coleman Lake. Hammock broke when I tested the tension, soI spent the night in the shelter on a pad that's too thin for my person. My hiking partner and 4 other guys from Sumiton were also here. Hiking tip: If your headlamp has a block to keep it from coming on in your backpack, take batteries out and put them back in. That resets the lockout block and it will work.

Beautiful here with the stream rolling down the hill! There's been a lot of rain so there's a lot of stream. I took 2 zeros in Heflin with a bum foot. Wish I had stayed "downtown" rather than the motel by rt 20. Gonna take it slow, shelter hop, and see how things feel in Cave Spring. See y'all at the finish!

Slow going for me. Rain won't go away. Morale is low. Probably going to go home at Cave Springs for a couple of weeks to change out some gear and let spring come in a little more. Dog hiking with Gracie the mixed? Rot? A little aggressive around strangers. Not my dog. Loves chsing sticks thrown in the creek. Sort of doing a loop. Tip. If you're NB and got a little left in your legs about 40 mic north is another great site with a slightly bigger, deeper stream. Gracie dog loved swimming there. It was over her head in spots. Loves that.

Red in for the day. I'm taking it slow and easy. 2 miles yesterday to the camp from the trailhead, and 6 miles today. I feel like I should defend a slow hike, but I'm still not going to. What is the point of pulling a 12-20 mile day if all you can say is "Boy, I pulled an X mile day today?) Going to take a bath, set up my mosquito netting, read my book, filter water, and have a tiny bit of energy left for tonight. To do what? Who knows? Maybe a campfire.
Thanks for such a great spot that is so clean and well kept. The waterfall itself is refreshing to the soul. NOBO GA→ME 98

Well, Ms Marvelous and Capt Awesome got hitched last Saturday 4/27. We are back as part of our honeymoon! Oh we tied the knot at the log cabin church by Coleman Lake just off the trail and even got to celebrate with a few hikers. Enjoying this place as always.

We arrived at 4:30 PM to this spectacular campsite. We played in the creek and relaxed on its banks while waiting on the last member of our party. Four hours later he still had not arrived. We were worried sick and on the verge of calling park emergency service. To make matters worse, it was pouring down rain. The three of us gathered out witts and laced our boots and set out back down the trail for a rescue mission. Around a quarter mile we got call reception and got a text from our lost friend. He got a ride back to his car at the forestry service road and went back to Birmingham. He's never going backpacking with us again. We otherwise had a great time and can't wait to come back.
