Kathy was here for the night. GET southbound. Under 200 miles to go!!! Been hiking for 5 months. The past two months have been way too hot to hike in... but forward is progress, and despite the continuing heat, I'm on the final stretch.
Attn: Mother Nature's Son - Jo "Someday" S and Hillbilly Bart H say Hey. I crossed paths - literally - with Jo in 2014 on the Ice Age Trail in Wi. Relieved to see just enough reasonably fresh water in the creekbed to keep me comfortable tonight and into the morning. Beautiful shelter, beautiful location!!Kudos!

Spent the night here before finally crossing into my home state of Alabama. Seven weeks on a hike from Hump Mtn, NC in the Roan Highands on the AT, the BMT, &SOBO to Flagg Mtn. Got here at 10:30am yesterday. It poured all day and had some serious thunder & lightning. I am so grateful for this shelter. It's in the upper 30s / low 40s and the whole area has an inch of flowing water. Debating calling this place home again to avoid paying for a hotel as it will rain 1.7 inches today and tomorrow. Came from Hawkins Hollow and trying to get another 5 miles today. Not much water from that shelter to ths one. Lunch was good and rest was better. Getting water at the creek. 1:15 pm. Our 2019 goal of completing the Alabama Pinhoti Trail is complete! Now we have to get to the trailhead to catcha ride into Cedartown! Our car was towed! I guess it looked sketchy parked by the side of the road. We are getting picked up by the towing company in a couple hours. All is well that ends well and at least we are alive and safe. Full of thanksgiving on this Lord's day! We will be thinking about our friends tonight. I hope Bark Ranger Judy keeps you safe through the storm. Hike On! Signing out for 2019.
